Chase Aeroplan Card: New Offer of 70,000 Points

Chase Aeroplan Card: New Offer of 70,000 Points

The Chase Aeroplan Card is available to US residents and Canadians who have embarked on the path of getting US credit cards. The card has now put on a new round of welcome bonuses for the latter half of 2022.

As part of the latest round of welcome bonuses, there’s both a public offer and an in-path offer available, and let’s take a look at the details for both.

Public Offer: 70,000 Aeroplan Points

The new public offer for the Chase Aeroplan Card is for 70,000 Aeroplan points upon spending $3,000 in the first three months (all figures in USD).

This represents an all-time-high in terms of the number of “pure” Aeroplan points that’s offered as a welcome bonus on this card.

In the past, we’ve seen the welcome bonus go higher in terms of nominal value, but delivered in the form of less flexible Welcome Flight Reward Certificates instead.

If you’re eligible for the Chase Aeroplan Card but haven’t applied yet, then 70,000 Aeroplan points with a reasonable $3,000 spending requirement is certainly a strong incentive to get the card at this time.

In-Path Offer: 80,000 Aeroplan Points + $250 Statement Credit

As we’ve seen in the past with Aeroplan co-branded credit cards by TD, CIBC, and American Express in Canada, the US-issued Chase Aeroplan Card is also putting on an in-path offer, which only shows up during the booking path of a new flight booking on the Air Canada website.

To maximize your odds of seeing the in-path offer show up, use a US-based VPN while searching for a flight on the Air Canada website.

The in-path offer for the Chase Aeroplan Card gives you only 20,000 Aeroplan points, although it also earns a $250 statement credit after your first purchase.

On the surface, this statement credit more than outweighs the first-year annual fee of $95, and essentially pays for two and a half years of holding the card upfront.

However, compared to the public offer, you’re essentially giving up 50,000 Aeroplan points in exchange for a $250 statement credit. We’d value 50,000 Aeroplan points at $900+, so it’d be a much better idea to pursue the public offer instead of the in-path offer.

Indeed, this round of the in-path offer is much weaker than in the first half of 2022, when it was arguably superior to the public offer. Aeroplan appears to be continually experimenting with its welcome incentives through various channels to understand which ones are most tempting…
