Originally opening in 1926 as the Liberty Memorial, the National WWI Museum and Memorial is a must-visit in the area. This monument and national World War I museum, managed by the Kansas City Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, focuses on multiple global events from the first World War through the Paris Peace Conference.

This 32,000-square-foot national museum facility has a glass bridge that travels over a field of 9,000 red poppies, where each poppy represents 1,000 combatant deaths during the first World War

The National World War I Museum also features two main galleries with period artifacts, including a Renault FT tank, uniforms, a 1917 Harley-Davidson Model J motorcycle, and General John J. Pershing’s headquarters flag.
