History of People’s Park in the Sky
People’s Park in the Sky was built during the Marcos era on government-owned land previously owned by the Bureau of Air Transport. The unfinished mansion was commissioned by former First Lady Imelda Marcos in the 1980s and was intended to be a guest house for visiting dignitaries.
The Palace in the Sky was originally built to accommodate US President Ronald Reagan and his wife for their Philippine visit. However, the visit never came to fruition, and the palace was soon abandoned. The unfinished palace sat untouched for years until the People Power Revolution in 1986, which led to the downfall of Ferdinand Marcos’ regime.
After the revolution, the government took over the unfinished mansion and converted it into a park. The park was opened to the public in 1992 and was renamed People’s Park in the Sky. The park is now a popular tourist spot in Tagaytay, attracting visitors from all over the world.
