Oh what a loaded question! Recently a friend asked about my honest opinions about Santorini and it’s one of those things that brings back a lot of emotions and feelings that becomes quite complicated when you break it down.
While I’ve written about our 3 day Santorini itinerary which touches on it, this is something that deserves a bit more attention because I know the turmoil you’re going through right now. Is Santorini worth it and should you include it in your trip? Let me help you walk the line of reason here based on 2 separate trips I’ve made.
Is Santorini worth it?
Highlights of Santorini

Top Tips for Travelling to Santorini
- Where to stay – We stayed at Prekas Apartments for the stunning views, and being far enough away from the chaos of the main town to be peaceful but not so far that getting places was an issue. We use Booking.com for all of our stays. Alternatively, you can always see if hotel corporate codes might work for you.
- Car rentals – We do recommend renting a car to truly explore Santorini, at least for part of it. Save the most money through car rental coupon codes and always start your search with Discover Cars and RentalCars so you know what the best deals are.
- Ferries – In Greece, taking the ferry is the most economical. Use FerryHopper to start your search.
- Flights – International flights are never cheap, but with the Skyscanner “Everywhere” feature you can find the best deals. Check how much it would be for you to get to Greece!
- Insurance – Not always required but always recommended! Make sure you’re covered with the best travel insurance.
