New York City offers an incredible blend of iconic landmarks, cultural experiences, and trendy spots that make it perfect for a family trip with teens.
It is the most requested destination by my two teens, so I recently obliged for a one-on-one New York long weekend trip with my eldest teen Kalyra (17)
She’s done all the major attractions on previous trips, so this time was all about Broadway shows, shopping, exploring Gossip Girl locations, and indulging in tasty treats she discovered on Tik Tok! It was a fantastic way to experience New York through her passions!
In sponsorship with Allianz Travel (who keep our travel investments protected yearlong on an annual policy) I’ve created this 3-day itinerary for teens in NYC to help make your family trip easier to plan!
Lace up your boots and get ready to clock up some miles. We walked everywhere (30,000 steps a day) – requested by Kalyra! It’s a great way to see more and walk off those indulgent calories. You have the subway if walking is too much for you!
Here’s your detailed guide to an unforgettable long weekend in NYC, crafted especially for families with teens.
NYC Plan in Advance
- NYC HOTELS: We recommend staying in Midtown, Times Square region, which makes it easier for walking to most places. Our suggestions, based on previous stays. (For this trip we stayed at the Paramount which I DON’T recommend. 4-star prices for 2-star offerings)
- DISCOUNT PASSES: If visiting several top attractions, consider a CityPASS or NYC Sightseeing Pass to save money.
- BOOK IN ADVANCE: Top of the Rock and/or Summit One Vanderbilt
- AIRPORT: We prefer flying into La Guardia, catching the free airport link to Rochester Ave Station, and jumping the subway straight to 49th street Times Square. It will cost $3 and take about 50 mins.
Day 1: Midtown Manhattan Highlights
You may want to switch Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center around, as following our New York itinerary will involve a little backtracking. But we love starting the day with a bagel breakfast at Bryant Park!
Stop 1: Breakfast: Zucker’s Bagels and Smoked Fish at Bryant Park
From our accommodation in Times Square, it was a short stroll to Bryant Park, one of my favorite places in New York, especially during a NYC Christmas with their ice-skating rink.
This bustling green space is always full of life, offering an opportunity to relax, people-watch, or check out seasonal…
