From sunsets on the beach to hikes up a dormant volcano, there are tons of bonding experiences to be had on a family vacation to Hawaii.

We spent three weeks hopping around the Hawaiian islands with our two daughters, embarking on road trips, hiking jungle trails, snorkeling the coral reefs and getting into the true Aloha spirit.

Ohana (family) is deeply important in the Hawaiian culture making it a perfect family travel destination.

It’s a diverse and laid-back destination, with ample educational opportunities for our girls, and tons of memory making experiences that we still talk about to this day.

The Ultimate 3-Week Hawaii Itinerary For Families

Before we share the itinerary, it’s important to note there are six major islands in Hawaii you can visit: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island.

The most accessible island to get to is Oahu, which is home to the capital, Honolulu, and is serviced by direct flights from most major cities in the USA.

Delta Airlines fly from cities such as Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, whereas Hawaiian Airlines fly from Boston. Outside of the U.S., you can find direct flights from Auckland NZ, Japan, Fiji, and South Korea.

So, we begin our itinerary from Oahu. When it comes to travelling between islands, we share more information about that as we go on.

Although home to the capital, Oahu is the third largest island in Hawaii, and offers a little bit of everything you would want from a destination – from bustling city life to laid back surf towns.
