Nature Folk Nordic Spa Review: Halifax’s Peaceful Urban Escape

Nova Scotia surprised us in many ways during our week-long road trip, but one of the biggest revelations came in the most unlikely of places: a small, urban Nordic spa tucked inside a repurposed city hall building on Dartmouth’s waterfront near the capital of Halifax.

Nature Folk Wellness Collective, a Nordic Spa, may not have sprawling outdoor pools or sweeping ocean views like some of the other spas we visited, but what it offers is something equally special: a peaceful, restorative urban retreat where you can recharge, reconnect, and step back into the city feeling completely renewed.

For us, Nature Folk Nordic Spa holds an extra layer of meaning. It was the very first Nordic spa we ever tried — and the place where I, a lifelong heat-lover, discovered a surprising new addiction: the cold plunge.

 It was the first Nordic spa out of four we were experiencing on our week-long Nova Scotia road trip in partnership with Tourism Nova Scotia.

Here’s what we experienced…

Start with Breakfast and Murals in Dartmouth

Before we step into the urban spa sanctuary, we decided to began our Halifax morning in the best possible way — with breakfast at Café Goodluck, a cozy spot just around the corner. While their breakfast sandwich may sound simple – an egg with tomato jam, picked onions, cheese mayo and greens, it was robust with flavor and reminded me of home – Australia home – especially when paired with their outstanding flat whites. What an introduction to Nova Scotia!

Fueled up, we strolled down Portland Street toward the waterfront, passing a few vibrant street murals, and soaking in the skyline views of Halifax waterfront! Now we were ready to turn around, walk a few steps and balance that with relaxation at ivy covered Nature Folk.

Stepping into Nature Folk, we were immediately greeted by the spa’s friendly manager, who handed me a refreshing, healthy juice as she walked us through the space. From the very first moments, I felt the stress of travel logistics melt away. The design was minimalist and calming, with soft neutral tones and gentle lighting that encouraged us to slow down and breathe.
