When most people think of Dubai, they envision camels, sand dunes, and palm trees. The vast majority of people are unaware that arid Dubai is home to one of the largest flower gardens on Earth. The Dubai Miracle Garden — which has been in operation since Valentine’s Day of 2013 — features over 150 million flowers that are artfully arranged to depict peacocks, castle turrets, and hearts.

Dubai may seem like an unlikely location for a lush garden, but the operators of the Dubai Miracle Garden insist that they have developed a state-of-the-art irrigation system that effectively reuses wastewater. Spanning over 775,000 square feet, this colorful floral expanse showcases the effectiveness of their irrigation techniques, maintaining millions of flowers in full bloom.

Visitors to the Dubai Miracle Garden will find a floral Smurf Village, a clock made of flowers, and an Umbrella Tunnel comprised of vibrant umbrellas. Another highlight is the floral likeness of the Emirates Airbus A380. One of the garden’s most popular attractions is a statue of a woman in a floral dress with flowing hair.

Adjacent to the Miracle Garden is the Dubai Butterfly Garden, featuring over 15,000 butterflies fluttering in a climate-controlled dome. Guests can admire butterflies of various shapes and sizes up close and explore a koi pond teeming with bright orange fish.

For avid gardeners, a visit to the Dubai Miracle Garden is an absolute must. The floral castles, animals, and hearts will inspire visitors to creatively enhance their own gardens. While creating a floral peacock may be ambitious for the average gardener, arranging roses in the shape of a heart is a more achievable project that can attract plenty of admirers to any garden.
