Amsterdam is a city with many markets. It’s no wonder that, given the compact nature of the city’s center and the high foot traffic of tourists (and therefore potential customers), local residents have turned to market-based businesses as a means of making a living.

As the largest street market in Amsterdam, it’s located in a trendy neighborhood called De Pijp, or The Pipe. This market has everything from organic food, fresh produce and fresh fish to clothes and souvenirs.

While wandering around this historical market and taking in local life, if you have a sweet tooth, try the freshly made stroopwafels at Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels.

The Albert Cuyp Market is one of Amsterdam’s biggest markets; it’s open every day except Sunday. It’s located on the corner of Albert Cuypstraat and Ferdinand Bolstraat—two streets named after famous Dutch painters—and stretches more than 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) along both streets.
