Taal Volcano in the Philippines has been emitting volcanic smog or vog since the first week of September 2023. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has issued health advisories due to vog, which can severely irritate the eyes, throat, and respiratory tract.

As air quality continues to remain poor in parts of Southern Tagalog and Metro Manila due to the combined effects of Taal Volcano’s volcanic smog and vehicle pollution, local government executives are expected to announce a suspension of classes for Saturday, 22 September 2023. This decision will undoubtedly affect many in the region as the hazardous air quality persists.
