Similarly to Iraq or Somalia, Venezuela has an incredibly bad reputation for being one of the most dangerous countries in the world.
Venezuela, nevertheless, never had suicide bombings or war-related problems, but it was more of a massive rates of violent crime inflamed by one of the worst and long-lasting economical crisis in the world.
Venezuela has an economy fully dependent on oil and managed by extremely corrupt leaders with absolutely zero incentives, all fuelled by the execution of extreme Communist laws and policies that led the country to having a 10,000% inflation and a shortage crisis that lasted until 2019 for nearly 10 years, a crisis that led hundreds of Venezuelans to nearly starvation because they couldn’t even find a pack of rice in the supermarket.
Venezuelans have suffered what is not written, and listening to their stories should be an unmissable part of your trip, as much as it is visiting the Angel Falls.
Today, the situation isn’t great but with the stabilization of their currency and the significant improvement in security, local people are being more optimistic and enthusiastic for their future.
My opinion is that there hasn’t been a better time to travel to Venezuela than it is now.
