When looking for affordable accommodation on the Great Ocean Road, you cannot go wrong with the YHA Apollo Bay.
It has a nice ring to it – you can picture yourself walking through the halls quietly singing it to yourself, “I’m staying at the YHA, Apollo Bay.” Maybe do a bit of toe tapping up the stairs and a shoe shuffle into the chill out room.
But the fact that the name rhymes is not the only reason we enjoyed our stay at the YHA Apollo Bay contrary to what people might think, the YHA is a great choice for families with kids, as well as allow you to save money on accommodation.
If you’re thinking of staying at the Apollo Bay YHA, here is our complete and honest review based on our stay.
About YHA Apollo Bay Eco Hostel
The Apollo Bay YHA is an eco-friendly hostel perfectly designed to reduce its impact on the environment and help you have a great stay in one of Australia’s most famous destinations – The Great Ocean Road.
Apollo Bay is roughly half-way along the Great Ocean Road, just 2.5 hours drive from Melbourne. It’s located on 5 Pascoe Street, Apollo Bay, just one street back from the Great Ocean Road in the center of Apollo Bay, and has free on-site parking available.
The building is designed so that the upper wing can be shut down in the winter to conserve energy, and it also lets in a lot of natural lighting so you don’t need to turn on light switches in the day.
There is a variety of accommodation types available, from dorm rooms to private rooms to family rooms.
They also have an organic herb garden and veggie garden that is available for guests to use for free.
Nothing gets me more excited to cook than a garden that supplies me with fresh ingredients, especially a sprig of rosemary for my cooking companion: G & T. (Otherwise known as a Mum’s five o’clock Gin and Tonic).
