Although I love Boston for its historical sites and fantastic food, Boston has much more to offer than the Freedom Trail. From top notch art museums to whale watching to superb shopping and more, here are my recommendations for things to do in Boston.
Shopping—if you like the finer things in life, Boston has some great shops to spend some dough. With glamorous store fronts like Chanel and Cartier, Newbury St. and its surrounding area has great shopping. If you enjoy luxury stores all in one place, check out the collections of Copley Place and the Prudential Center (they’re near each other); there you will find Tiffany, Saint Laurent, Dior, and more. For boutique shops and a scenic stroll, walk along Charles St. in the Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Boston City Cruises—head over to the Seaport District to catch a cruise around the harbor or to venture out in the ocean for whale watching. The company offers all sorts of interesting boating experiences.
New England Aquarium—penguins, turtles, seals, and other marine life are the stars of the show here.
Boston Public Gardens—enjoy a walk through the first public botanical garden in the United States.
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum—a world-class art museum showcasing a fabulous collection including Titian, Botticelli, and John Singer Sargent can be found in Gardner’s former home. You can see the Italian-inspired architecture and stroll through her Back Bay gardens. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is another hit with art from all over the world.
Fenway Park—opened in 1912, enjoy one of the only neighborhood baseball parks left in existence. You can either catch the Red Sox in action or take a tour of the stadium.
Ghosts and Graveyards Tour—as one of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston has a spirited history. Visit Boston’s haunted spots while hearing ghostly and, perhaps, grisly tales on one of the spooky trolley tours going around the city.
